I am of the opinion that if Sam Stosur was a man (and this isn’t a dig at Lleyton, we all know I love Lleyton) a little more of a big deal would be being made about her steamrolling her way into the French Open final. If Sam wins, it will be the first time an Australian woman has won a slam singles title in thirty years (the last being Evonne Goolagong Cawley at Wimbledon in 1980). And it will be the first time an Australian woman has won the French Open singles title since Margaret Court in 1973. This is a big deal for women’s tennis in a country that has notably struggled to produce a female champion over the past couple of decades. So I say, forget about the socceroos for a little while and watch the woman with the extraordinary serve have a crack at making sporting history. HURRAH
